THE SCIENCE

How Surge Fit Works

HIIT

Is Surge Fit a HIIT workout?

Surge Fit is a high intensity interval training (HIIT) workout. HIIT is a form of exercise that includes high intensity bursts of exercise, followed by a short recovery period. Surge is a multimodal form of HIIT that combines both strength training and cardio, yielding great results in cardiorespiratory fitness, strength, and calories burned.

MUSIC

Music-Driven Benefits

Studies have shown that music can enhance performance in various exercise formats, including HIIT. Music not only motivates us to get moving, it impacts participants psychologically to make
feelings surrounding exercise more positive. Surge synchronizes movement to music to heighten the flow of the movement and help participants achieve the specific track objective whether that be quick feet in a cardio track or a slow weighted squat in the legs track.

RESISTANCE TRAINING

Scared of Weights? Don't be!

A key component of Surge Fit is strength training, which yields both short and long term results. Resistance training increases muscle mass, which leads to a higher resting metabolic rate (the amount of calories you need just for your body to function). For every pound increase in trained muscle, you can raise your resting metabolic rate by 5-11 calories. Basically, your new muscle mass will keep working long after your Surge Fit class ends. Strength training also aids in joint stability, increases in bone density, and preservation of lean body mass with age. So grab your dumbbells and FEEL THE SURGE!
